Initially many ShopSmith legs came attached with Zinc coated bolts secured with square nuts and star washers. Over the years those fasteners could have rusted, worked their way loose, fallen off and gotten lost. You may have replaced them with whatever you had around your shop. Nowadays you might have a machine that looks like it is held together poorly. Why not spend a small amount of money and secure your ShopSmith legs properly?
Our leg attaching bolt sets are made of stainless steel to eliminate rust. The original slot head bolts look quite dated. Our stainless steel bolt heads are of the Phillips head design which looks more modern. The antique looking original zinc coated square nuts have been replaced by our nylon insert stainless steel hex lock nuts. The original star washers were an attempt to keep the nuts tight. ShopSmith usage generates a lot of vibration and this tends to loosen the nuts. We provide nylon insert lock nuts to keep the fasteners held together so that you will not loose your fasteners. You may feel that washers are not needed with lock nuts. However, we at Right_Tighty like using washer so we have included them in this lit.
